Rumbling

sometimes you get bloody scratching up the side of a mountain you didn't know you were climbing because it was right there in front of you and it was all you knew. this is my life, you say, this is who and what i am, but when you stop to breathe, you wonder how you got to where you are because it doesn't look like where you thought you were going. of course, maybe you were totally oblivious and had no clue that you were traveling on a highway that sprouted exits. maybe you thought that the yellow line in the middle of the road was your calling. follow me, it whispered, and you will be all that you should be. but maybe, just maybe, one of those exits might have brought you to the sea where you would have found that you are more vibrant than you think you are, that you are more striking than the tallest tree or the most vibrant flower, more beautiful than the kaleidoscope of colors in a rainbow, a droplet of rain, the waves of the sea. maybe you would have known these things if you had taken your eyes off the straight yellow line that ran you into the mountain.
