Rain

The rains came, slowly at first,
drip drop drip drop.
And then suddenly,
with the fury
of an angry Greek god of old,
the avalanche of cool water
thundered down on my roof
and then plunged to the thirsty earth,
which opened its heart
and welcomed the ravage.
I stood like the village idiot,
plundered by the rains,
not moving
not thinking
just feeling the deluge drown
my humanness…
until I was one with the earth,
a being with no recourse
but to take what is given,
like just another flower bending
under the force of a storm
without mercy.
